In a thrilling match filled with VAR drama, Germany edged out Denmark 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the European Championships.
Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala scored the crucial goals for Germany, while Rasmus Hojlund’s missed chances proved costly.
Denmark, who had drawn all three of their group-stage games, started strong but failed to capitalize on their opportunities.
In the first half, Christian Eriksen’s clever pass found Thomas Delaney, who skillfully beat Antonio Rudiger before setting up Hojlund. However, the forward’s shot was expertly blocked by Manuel Neuer.
Hojlund had another golden chance in the second half, courtesy of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s precise pass. However, he shot straight at Neuer, who made a comfortable save.
This missed opportunity proved pivotal, as Musiala doubled Germany’s lead just two minutes later.
However, a few Man Utd fans still spoke up to defend him:
The first person said: “People attacking Hojlund and labeling this chance a ‘miss’. It isn’t a miss. A world-class keeper saved it.”
The second fans continue: “If it were a striker from any team other than Man United, nobody would have said anything. 🤷”
Another one express: “I agree this one was a save, but his other chance where he just blasted it instead of keeping a cool head and placing it was not good.”
Hojlund ended the tournament without a goal.
