Gareth Southgate has been persuaded by Alan Shearer to maintain Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden in the England squad.According to Alan Shearer, “no other country” would think about removing Jude Bellingham or Phil Foden from the national team. There has been discussion regarding what Gareth Southgate needs to do to correct the record following England’s slow start to Euro 2024. The Three Lions managed to hold onto first place in Group C despite having less possession and shots than Denmark.Southgate has come under fire tactically because Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold did not play in their places of their ability. Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle United, and Cole Palmer, a key player for Chelsea, have both not yet touched a ball in Germany. Some have demanded that rather than forcing Foden or Bellingham into a system, England should abandon them. Toon legend Shearer, however, has rejected that idea and provided a substitute. He said to the podcast The Rest Is Football, “There’s no way you can leave Bellingham or Foden out of the England team.” “Those two players would not be excluded by any other nation. They are outstanding athletes. Find a way to integrate them both into the team so they can work together. As I’ve stated, Bellingham and Rice would both be free to move forward.“With Foden as a No. 10, I would place Saka and Gordon on each side of Harry Kane. They are more than capable, therefore I don’t think they should be afraid to be left one on one in the back. It will need to be changed by him. He is unable to play with the same squad (against Slovenia) and will not. Trent was a midfield gamble that didn’t pay off.It is quite uncommon for a team to have a bad game from every member. If pressed, I may suggest Guehi or (well played) Foden. The absence of a plan caught me off guard. Gareth needs to figure out a solution because he isn’t getting the most out of those players.
