Trent Alexander-Arnold will be replaced by CONOR GALLAGHER in England’s starting lineup when they play Slovenia.
Following two performances below expectations at Euro 2024, Gareth Southgate’s tactics and player selection have come under fire.
However, having lamented the team’s physical state and Kalvin Phillips’ absence, Southgate now appears prepared to alter the recipe in an attempt to improve the performances.
According to SunSport, 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder Gallagher will be the one tasked with carrying out that duty.
Although Alexander-Arnold, 25, usually plays right-back for Liverpool, he was forced into the middle.
After just 54 minutes against Denmark, though, Southgate seemed to have had enough of his “experiment”.
Off the bench, Gallagher replaced him, just as he had against Serbia in the first game.
And it appears he has now accomplished enough to be included in the starting lineup.
If there are no unforeseen changes or late injuries, he will probably partner Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
It is anticipated that the other members of the team would not change.
In each of his three big tournaments, Southgate has made adjustments in the third game before making more adjustments in the opening knockout match.
Luke Shaw, whose last competitive game came in February, was seen rehearsing with the other members of the team after Southgate took a chance on his fitness by including him.
