Summary of Liverpool stars’ performances on national duty: Lightning-fast Andy Robertson; Szoboszlai’s efforts in vain

The game on Wednesday in Stuttgart was decided by goals in each half from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan. Szoboszlai, a defender for Liverpool, was captain of his country.

After Musiala scored the first goal in the middle of the first half, the 23-year-old came close twice to getting a quick equaliser. The first time Szoboszlai tried to score, Manuel Neuer stretched and blocked his free kick from the top corner. The next time he charged into the box, Jonathan Tah blocked his shot.

Hungary lost their second game of the event when Gundogan scored in the 67th minute. On Sunday, they will finish the pool phase by playing Andy Robertson’s Scotland.

The Liverpool left back helped set up his country’s goal, which gave them an early lead in Wednesday night’s Group A match in Cologne. He started a counterattack by running from deep, and Scott McTominay’s deflected shot found the back of the net.

Then, former Red Xherdan Shaqiri scored a stunning goal to tie the game for Switzerland. However, Robertson almost scored the game-winning goal for Scotland when he sent in a free kick that Grant Hanley headed onto the post.

The score would end in a tie, though, which means that Scotland will play Hungary on Sunday in their last group game, where they will be in third place and one point ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai’s team.
