In just a few hours, Scott McTominay and Lisandro Martinez experienced unforgettable moments in Scotland and Argentina, respectively.
In the opening match of EURO 2024, Scott McTominay’s Scotland faced host Germany. The Man Utd midfielder played the whole match but could not help his hometown team avoid a crushing defeat.
McTominay still had an extremely brave match when participating in 11 duels and winning 7 of them, in addition to 2 Tackles won, 1 Blocks, 2 Clearances, 2 Interceptions, 2 Recoveries
Defeated 1-5, McTominay and his teammates’ path to getting through the group stage became extremely difficult. Scotland is the team with the lowest FIFA ranking in Group A, compared to Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.
A few hours later, another “Red Devils” factor, Lisandro Martinez, also had to taste bitter fruit. The MU midfielder was named by coach Lionel Scaloni in Argentina’s starting lineup in the friendly match against Guatemala.
Right in the 4th minute, Martinez unfortunately scored an own goal in an attempt to clear the ball. The 26-year-old was luckier than McTominay when “La Albiceleste” successfully came back to win 4-1, thanks to two doubles from Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez.
This is Argentina’s final rehearsal before the 2024 Copa America. The Tango team will launch to face Canada on June 21.
Martinez is likely to take the starting spot at the South American football festival. In both past friendly matches, he was kept on the field by coach Scaloni for 90 minutes.
