Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat away to Ireland in their penultimate warm-up match prior to Euro 2024 ended their 14-match unbeaten streak, but Hungary’s manager Marco Rossi was more dissatisfied with the manner in which they conceded a late goal.
Troy Parrott’s extra-time goal handed Ireland an unexpected victory, following Adam Idah’s initial goal for the home side and Adam Lang’s equaliser for Hungary before halftime.
“Such a goal cannot be conceded in the 92nd minute.” Rossi stated, “We desired to win, but if we cannot score the game-winning goal, we must learn to settle for a draw.”
Hungary last suffered a loss in September 2022 against Italy in a Nations League match. Although they led their Euros qualifying group, their longest active unblemished streak of any European country ended against a non-European Championship opponent.
