Mason Mount has returned to Manchester United training ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
The midfielder has endured an injury-ravaged first season in Manchester following his £55million move from Chelsea, limited to just eight starting appearances in all competitions.
Mount returned from a calf injury at the end of March, scoring his first goal for the club against Brentford before starting his first game of the year against Crystal Palace.
He suffered yet another injury blow in the days that followed, missing the final three games of the Premier League season.
But the 25-year-old was pictured back on the training pitch on Wednesday ahead of the trop to Wembley this weekend.
United have been ravaged by injury problems in defence but those are beginning to ease as they approach their final game of the season.
In the season’s last Premier League matchup against Brighton, Lisandro Martinez made his debut for the first time since February. Raphael Varane also made a late comeback off the bench.
Although they haven’t started a game together in four months, Varane’s final game with the team before his departure this summer might see United’s first-choice pairing receive the nod.
Harry Maguire is also working his way back with Victor Lindelof also back in training. The former United captain was named in England’s Euro 2024 squad this week, along with Luke Shaw who is unlikely to be fit enough to make the final group after an injury-hit season
Maguire meanwhile has missed United’s last four games but ‘does not know’ if he will be fit for the trip to Wembley.
‘Obviously it’s disappointing and a frustrating time to get injured,’ Maguire told talkSPORT. ‘I still don’t know if I’m going to be fit.
‘It’s going to be a late one. I’m hoping to be fit for the squad for the cup final but it will be touch and go.’
