Nike Football released a short film with Kylian Mbappé and young actress Makena Cooke as part of their new-generation Mercurial campaign. With the new Mercurial series, Nike was always going to steal some attention away from Cristiano Ronaldo. The question was how they would divide it between Mbappé and Neymar, who are both possible Mercurial successors. At least in this part, the Frenchman is the main character.
Makena Cooke may look familiar. That’s because she was in “Dream Further,” Nike’s hit film for the 2019 Women’s World Cup. You may know Mbappé from when he was a teenager and scored a lot of goals, won the World Cup, and basically sucked up the world stage. Cooke, a young player from California, challenges Mbappé to a crossbar fight to win his Nike Mercurial boots in the new movie.
You’ve probably already seen it, but she wins and gets to keep the boots she probably will never be able to fit. Mbappé has to walk home in his socks. It’s not important, though. What’s important is… not much. This is just one more chance for Nike to show off the new Mercurial and for us to enjoy how good the “New Lights” colorway looks on the field.
