In his first season with Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham won the La Liga title as a result of Girona’s thrilling triumph over Barcelona.

Reigning champions Barcelona lost 4-2 in the evening after Real Madrid thrashed Cadiz 3-0 at home on Saturday afternoon, with Bellingham, an England midfielder, among the goal scorers. After winning the Spanish Super Cup in January, this is Bellingham’s second trophy in his Madrid career and his first league title win overall.

Andreas Christensen gave Barcelona the lead after just three minutes, but it was canceled out sixty seconds later. And then, shortly before halftime, Robert Lewandowski gave Barca their lead back with a penalty.

However, Girona, who have jumped ahead of their rivals to take second place in the league table, scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to lead 4-2. In front of their home fans, they persevered to complete an outstanding campaign and give Real the title.

With two of those victories coming from manager Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos have now won 36 La Liga crowns. His team has only dropped one league game all season, that being the away loss to Atletico Madrid in the derby.

Real Madrid destroyed Cadiz at the bouncy Bernabeu thanks to a sensational second-half performance that also included goals from Braham Diaz, Bellingham, and Joselu. After that, everyone was focused on Estadi Montilivi as Barcelona traveled a short distance up the shore.

After Christensen’s early strike, Barca appeared to be willing to hold their opponents at bay, but Artem Dovbyk’s header soon leveled the score for Griona. Then, when Miguel Gutierrez fouled superstar Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski put the visitors ahead once more, slotting home.

Shortly after Portu’s substitution, Girona scored an equalizer, and a few moments later, Gutierrez made amends with a goal of his own to make the score 3-2. The left-back’s goal was set up by Portu, but he quickly added another goal to his tally with an incredible effort that ultimately defeated Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

As the champagne was being uncorked in Madrid, Barcelona was in third after failing to rally. Despite winning the first leg in France, Xavi’s team has now dropped three of their previous four games across all competitions, including a crushing Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain at home.

Then, just like they had in October and the Super Cup earlier in the year, Barca was defeated by Real in the third El Clasico of the season. In spite of the setbacks, Xavi reversed his earlier intention to quit the team this summer, which helped Valencia upset them 4-2 on Monday thanks to a goal from Lewandowski. With four games remaining, Barcelona is still in the running for second place.
