ARNE SLOT disclosed that discussions are underway and reaffirmed his interest in the Liverpool position.
Since Jurgen Klopp announced he will be leaving his position as manager at the end of the current campaign, Liverpool have been looking for a new leader.
Arne Slot wants to become Liverpool manager
Slot stated that he is eager to succeed the German and that he is sure the Reds and his present team, Feyenoord, will reach an agreement.
“My decision is clear, I would like to become the new manager of Liverpool,” Slot declared. My wish to visit Liverpool is no secret.
“Feyenoord and Liverpool are currently holding negotiations; I’m interested to see what will come of it.”
“Waiting for the clubs to come to an agreement, I am confident.”
Feyenoord is happy to let Slot go, but they and Liverpool have not yet reached an agreement on compensation.
The Merseyside club has been putting up a package of roughly £8.5 million, but they may need to raise it to £10 million.
If a deal is agreed Slot could be confirmed as the new Liverpool boss within the next 48 hours.
Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last year while the club won the Dutch Cup last weekend.
But Feyenoord are on the brink of missing out on the title this season with PSV Eindhoven leading the way after suffering just one league defeat.
Slot has led Feyenoord to a 64% winning record. Previously, he made an impact at AZ Alkmaar, where he averaged 2.11 points per game in the Eredivisie, the most of any coach in the team’s history.
A reporter questioned Slot about his future before security snatched him up.
When Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill tried to interview Slot about his future, one of the manager’s escorts instantly intervened, grabbing Slot’s shoulder and holding him at arm’s length.
When asked about his future plans, Slot grinned, but he would not comment on any potential move to Merseyside.
