BAD DAY: Jurgen Klopp’s treble dream goes up in smoke as Red Phoenix’s ‘wing breaks’ in Europa League quarter-finals

Liverpool should have been in the lead at Old Trafford after their impressive performance in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.

This performance, however, was very disappointing.

Unusually, there was no significant Anfield comeback despite Klopp’s three substitutions at halftime, including Andy Robertson, Dominic Szoboszlai, and Mo Salah.

Atalanta, currently ranked sixth in Serie A, had only managed two victories in their previous nine games.

No flags were present in the Kop due to a demonstration against a two percent rise in tickets for the upcoming season at Anfield.

Since Covid regulations prevented any fans from attending the last time Atalanta played here in November 2020 for the Champions League, Liverpool lost 2-0.

You would not have expected history to repeat itself, though, given Liverpool’s performance this year.

Less than three minutes later, Mario Pasalic kicked a shot into the left eye of Caoimhin Kelleher, leaving a massive red mark surrounding it. Somehow, he missed to score from close range, and Atalanta should have been ahead in front of the Kop.

Though, in the end, the Croatian international should have scored, the Irishman’s stop might have been considered good.

Though in a great position to score, Davide Zappacosta made the foolish choice to draw the ball back for Teun Koopmeiners, whose attempt was blocked. This was another chance lost by Atalanta, who were without injured former Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinic.

Darwin Nunez remains an irritating player who loses his cool when it matters most, despite having scored seven goals in his previous ten games for Liverpool. He has blown simple opportunities to score with a spectacular finish this season, as he did not need to use his strength to walk the ball around exposed keeper Juan Musso.

Havey Elliott nearly opened scoring for Atalanta with a curling shot that struck the bar and then the post, despite being in a considerably more difficult position than his teammate.

Liverpool had managed to keep the Italians off-balance for the most part after those early alarms, but seven minutes before halftime, they were exposed.

Former Chelsea player Zappacosta was in a ridiculous amount of space down the right, and he had time to find Scamacca, who scored from just inside the box on his first attempt. Kelleher dove beneath it after it rebounded off the ground, despite the lack of strength in the attempt.

A left-back After exhibiting a dismal performance in the first half injury time, Kostas Tsimikas once again vanished from sight. With a free run on goal, Koopmeiners beat Kelleher with a powerful shot after taking a hefty first touch.

Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones were two of the three substitutions made at halftime, so Tsimikas could have had few complaints.

Salah made an outstanding stop against Musso, and Liverpool looked better after the substitutions.

Nevertheless, astonishingly, Klopp’s group was too vulnerable in the rear. Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate left Scamacca entirely untouched, but Charles De Ketelaere read space well and identified the player.

Fans of West Ham will have wished they had witnessed a few more moments like this one after Scamacca expertly finished past Kelleher on his first try.

Mo Salah was offside, but Liverpool believed they had brought one goal back.

With just seven minutes remaining, however, Szoboszlai gave up the ball, Scamacca found Ederson with a fantastic pass, and although his effort was saved, Pasalic scored with a tap-in to make it 3-0.

It might be a crucial moment for Klopp after this loss. Even though they have already won one title, it is now doubtful that they will win three.

On May 22, when the Europa League final will take place—and when Klopp will be leaving his position as manager of the team—supporters of Liverpool have already reserved block reservations at hotels in the Irish city. However, those plans for a celebration in Temple Bar are now in jeopardy, and the Reds must pull off an incredible feat in Bergamo on Thursday. This will be a very difficult assignment for Klopp and his side to do against Gian Piero Gasperini’s well-trained team. The biggest surprise, though, came from Gianluca Scamacca of West Ham, who played the role of a dental surgeon, using his scalpel.Scamacca did not do much in east London, and even after moving to Atalanta for £22.5 million in the summer, he failed to make an impact in Serie A and was dropped from the Italian national squad. However, he entered this match on a strong scoring run and maintained it, stunning the Kop with two goals.Caoimhin Kelleher ought to have saved his first goal, but he had a very amazing finish on his second.Klopp, for his part, was left shaking his head in shock.
