As he has done every summer since joining the Falcons as general manager, Terry Fontenot will try to cover all of his main deficiencies in order to select the best player available in the draft. Free agency is quickly approaching.

Wide receiver is the most urgent need in Atlanta, excluding quarterback. The Falcons essentially don’t have another good wide receiver on the roster besides Drake London, so new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is anticipated to employ a lot of three receiver sets. They need to add more players to the position, and Odell Beckham Jr., a veteran, would be a viable alternative if they don’t want to spend top price.
It has been a while since Beckham was the top wide receiver. He will turn 32 years old next season and has experienced a number of injuries, including an ACL tear in the Super Bowl a few years ago that prevented him from playing in 2022. But Beckham made a comeback last season, signing a one-year contract with the Ravens, and contributing somewhat to a run-first system with 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
Although Beckham is better as a third option at this stage of his career, the Falcons need a #3 wide receiver as well as a #2, and he and the Falcons staff are acquainted.
When Beckham was in Los Angeles, Raheem Morris was the defensive coordinator and Zac Robinson was the assistant quarterbacks coach. That was pretty much the last time we saw an old-school Odell Beckham Jr. In just 3.5 games, he caught for almost 300 yards and two touchdowns during the Rams’ Super Bowl run.
Beckham tears his ACL in the story’s unfortunate conclusion, yet more than two years have passed since the injury. Nobody knows more than Morris and Robinson what he can contribute to a club in terms of productivity and locker room dynamics, so there may still be some gas left in the tank.
