OFFICIAL: Chiefs safety Justin Reid ‘announces’ NFL retirement

Justin Reid, a safety with the Kansas City Chiefs, attempted to pull a practical joke on Chiefs Kingdom on April Fools’ Day by declaring his football retirement.

The 27-year-old, a two-time Super Bowl champion and key player in Andy Reid’s system, spoke on X on Monday morning, stating: “I’ve been in this cycle of injury, pain, rehab for the last four years or so.” I’ve felt confined by it.

“The only way I can survive is if I give up playing football.” It has made me no longer like this game.

The tweet was posted at around 8:30am in Kansas City, meaning many fans would have woken up to the news of one of their heroes calling it a day.

Reid tweeted a Jim Carrey gif that reassured fans his retirement was only a jokeTo the relief of many Kansas City supporters, Reid quickly clarified to them that he was kidding by tweeting the image of Jim Carry peeking out.

“I detest today.” A admirer replied, “Wake me up when April 2nd starts.”

“This was the first April Fools joke that worked for me, and it’s only 9:30am,” exclaimed someone else.

In an attempt to complete an unprecedented Super Bowl “three-peat,” Reid and the Chiefs are preparing for a chance at history the following season.

Next season, Reid will begin the last year of a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Chiefs.
