At Brentford, Man Utd’s top scorer Andre Onana dazzled with a double save.

Despite having a terrible start to his time at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag, the summer signing, looked fantastic against Brentford on Saturday. And the Red Devils’ ability to take home some hardware was primarily due to the Cameroonian goalie.

Thomas Frank was perplexed as to why his team, peppering Onana’s goal, could not grab the lead at the Gtech Community Stadium. And United’s blushes were spared around the hour mark thanks to a particularly outstanding double save from the United No 1.

Yegor Yarmoluk’s 12-yard attempt taxed the reflexes of the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalie. What truly pleased me, though, was the follow-up response to Keane Lewis-Potter’s rebound.

“There are times when those scuff shots beat keepers,” Alan Smith, a broadcaster for Sky Sports, stated. “However, he gets back up so quickly!”

Despite keeping United in the draw, Onana was ultimately unable to maintain his clean sheet.

When replacement Mason Mount scored after 97 minutes, Onana’s valiant efforts nearly ensured all three points. But in the end, Kristoffer Ajer’s goal for the Bees sealed a draw, allowing the United defense to finally give way.

Ten Hag’s squad saw their lead evaporate in a matter of minutes, having previously thought that Mount’s first goal of the game deserved an exciting victory. To his credit, Onana did little by himself to stop the late finish.

The Cameroonian missed out on what may have been one of his finest opportunities while playing for United. That being said, it appears that Onana has overcome his initial nervousness to become an important member of Ten Hag’s team.
