‘He isn’t a good defender’: Steve Nicol thinks LFC first-teamer could leave for ‘£60m’

There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding Liverpool as a result of Jurgen Klopp’s expected departure in the summer.

Senior players made their way out of Anfield last summer, and when Mohamed Salah decided to stay despite offers from the Saudi Pro League, supporters exhaled with relief.

However, with the departure of Liverpool’s renowned manager in a few months, there will be concern that important players may follow him out the door.

Rumors have been circulating recently regarding Real Madrid’s investigation into Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract status; his current agreement expires in 2025.

According to ESPN, Steve Nicol acknowledged that he can see the visionary fullback moving and that offers as low as “£60 million” had been made for his services.

However, he was adamant that Conor Bradley, a talented young player, is “miles better” in the defensive position and that the 25-year-old just cannot defend.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the only player in that area for an extended period of time, with occasional support from utility players like James Milner, Joe Gomez, and Jordan Henderson.

Steve Nicol offered his opinions on the Real Madrid rumors that have surfaced now that there is more depth in that area.

“I think the fact that Klopp’s leaving, it’s going to be interesting because as we have all said, Trent Alexander-Arnold, as a fullback, is a poor defender,” said Nicol. “There is no getting away from that. I don’t care who you support. What team you watch. Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good defender.

“But he is so good going forward that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Real Madrid were to offer, I don’t know, £60, 70 or 80 million for Trent Alexander-Arnold when you have a young kid in Conor Bradley, who is a miles better defender, great going forward, but it’s in the same class as Trent.”
