Although his January 2011 transfer to Chelsea for a then-British record £50 million cost somewhat tarnished his legacy, the former Spain striker is still highly esteemed at Liverpool.

Torres, who has put on a lot of muscle since retiring in 2019, recently posted a video of himself working out in a Reds shirt that included Alexander-Arnold’s name.

In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Torres—who was a product of Atletico Madrid’s development system before making the move to England—explained his clothing decision.

Both the fans and himself, as a former player, think Trent is an exceptional player, he stated.

It is great to watch how these young guys are stepping up and becoming key members of the first squad.

The fact that he is a fellow Reds fan and performing at such a high level on the field must make him a fan favorite.

“It is like what I did when I was at Atletico; I could feel the love from the fans wherever I was—in the stands or on the field.”

In his next words, he assured Trent that he was experiencing the same thing. He is a key player for the first team and a Scouser by nationality.

He is an exceptional man to all of us. I was able to get my hands on his jersey, and it is perfect for my workouts.

While at Anfield, Torres shared the field alongside legendary Liverpool players like Jamie Carragher, Pepe Reina, and Steven Gerrard.

But he did commend Alexander-Arnold’s talent and said he wished he had been on the same squad as the 25-year-old.

“It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to play alongside him and experience the kind of crosses he performs,” he continued.

Being on the same squad as Trent and being prepared to head those crosses would be an absolute delight. In my opinion, it has the makings of a solid bond.

From his 2016 debut for his boyhood club, Alexander-Arnold has blossomed into one of the world’s top right backs.

With over 300 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, the academy graduate has laid on 82 assists.

Although he is sidelined with a knee injury at the moment, Alexander-Arnold is anticipated to return for the end of season run-in. He was appointed vice-captain of the team in the summer.

Meanwhile, Torres, who coaches the Under-19 team for Atletico Madrid, will be in action this weekend at Anfield as a member of the Liverpool Legends against the Ajax Legends.
