A former footballer has recommended Liverpool to try to recruit Ivan Toney through a deal swap. However, Jürgen Klopp will not accept the strange recommendation.
An ex-Reds striker has indicated that Liverpool might make a swap deal with Brentford for England striker Ivan Toney this summer. Liverpool has been urged to ask for Toney. However, the player’s suggestion to turn around indicates that it is never going to be possible.
Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore stated in his Caught Offside column, “For me, if Liverpool decided to come calling, that would be perfect.” “They already have an embarrassing amount of wealth in attacking areas, but the Brentford star might be a terrific acquisition if any of them were offloaded in the upcoming months.
.
“Toney is so great in my opinion that I could picture him between Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah. If I were the Reds, I would honestly be inclined to let go of Cody Gakpo—who I don’t think will go on to become a successful Liverpool striker—and replace him with Toney. Liverpool will probably look at him and say, “Not for us.” I wonder if the Bees would accept an offer that included cash and Gakpo from Brentford?
“Toney would be a huge addition to Liverpool because he can play as a typical nine, drop off, and establish partnerships, as he has demonstrated with Bryan Mbeumo. I would personally be calling Brentford.”
There is absolutely no possibility that this will occur. Despite having only recently returned from suspension, Toney is expected to make a move in the summer, with Brentford expecting to pay at least $100 million for him. It is quite improbable that Liverpool would spend that much money—or even send a player in part-exchange.
Apart from Gakpo, Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota are also available for Liverpool, so Jürgen Klopp has plenty of choices at number nine. It would make more sense for the Reds to sign a wider attacker as their next addition rather than another centre player.
It is far more likely that Toney will go elsewhere. Arsenal has looked into the matter, although it is unclear if Mikel Arteta’s team has the PSR/FFP space necessary to make a trade. It certainly doesn’t seem to in January, at least, having lavished summertime funds on Declan Rice and Kai Havertz instead.
Liverpool.com says: Suggesting the signing of Toney is one thing but swapping Gakpo for him is ludicrous. Would Gakpo accept being sent to Thomas Frank’s side? No. Would Liverpool want to lose the Dutchman? Clearly not.
This is a strange suggestion at the very least. It is quite simply never going to happen. Aside from all that, Toney is 27 and not the kind of expensive deal the Reds would be looking to seal.
