Van Dijk, 32, guided the Reds to a 4-1 Premier League victory over Brentford, with goals from Darwin Nunez, Alexis MacAllister, Cody Gakpo, and the returning Mohamed Salah.

The centre-back established history at the Gtech Community Stadium by winning the most games in his first 250 appearances for the Merseyside club.

The Netherlands international earned his 171st victory in all competitions, all of which came under current boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp signed the former Southampton star in 2018 for a stunning £75 million.

Van Dijk surpassed teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who won 168 games within the same time frame.

The top ten is completed by Liverpool icons Alisson (164), Sadio Mane (163), Andy Robertson (163), Salah (162), Alan Kennedy (160), Steve McMahon (155), Ian Rush (153), and Georginio Wijnaldum (151).

However, Wijnaldum only made 237 appearances before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

The Dutchman, however, admitted that he was absolutely unaware of anything since he was so concentrated on the difficult trip to Brentford that he had no idea he was making his 250th appearance for Liverpool.

Van Dijk told TNT Sports, “I had no idea I was playing my 250th game for Liverpool, but it is a proud moment for me and my family. On to many more.
