Coldplay’s Chris Martin requests ‘no phones’ during ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ performance

On January 23, Coldplay concluded their inaugural “Music of the Spheres World Tour” (MOSWT) performance in Singapore.

Hit songs by the band like “Yellow,” “Viva La Vida,” and “A Sky Full of Stars” are included in the set list.

The first chorus of “A Sky Full of Stars” was about to begin when the band broke up in the middle of the song.

The yelling ceased, the lights went down, and lead singer Chris Martin made a joke about how the event was about to finish.

Martin stood in front of the crowd and recalled that 24 years had passed since their first concert in Singapore.

He went on, “You guys are incredible, so the trip to Singapore was well worth it. We are not able to ask for more. With that said, I’m going to make a little larger request.”

Then he asked everyone to raise their hands and put their phones in their pockets for the duration of “A Sky Full of Stars” performance.

Martin declared that the band will never perform for this same audience again.

“This group of us this 60,000 (sic) and four of us, will never be in this room all together again so we would like to remember this just as one family, one big band, and the way we’d like to do that is to ask you please […] maybe we could do one song all together with no cell phones.”

The stadium lit up and the song resumed as he continued, saying, “All you need is your phone in your pocket and your hands in the sky.”
