Greenwood had to receive unpleasant criticism at El Sadar. Indar Gorri issued a scathing statement this week against his presence in Pamplona.
Part of the Osasuna stands chanted ” Greenwood Ԁie ” during this Sunday’s match between Osasuna and Getafe. The English player was also booed fiercely every time he had the ball at his feet. A section of Red Devils fans chanted similar words during the first round match at the Coliseum in which Greenwood debuted with the Madrid team.
In the second half, the match had to be paused for a few minutes for referee Sánchez Martínez to talk to both coaches and representatives on the field. Next, a message against rɑcism and xenophobia in football was broadcast over the stadium’s public address system.
Although the Manchester United loanee seemed to be settling in well, there was a problem with his most recent match that will undoubtedly have damaged him.
Greenwood has a past with Osasuna, having been involved in chants calling for the English forward’s murder during the away match.
The chants were absent from this tie, but the crowd booed Greenwood loudly each time he got the ball.
The Osasuna coach in a press conference before the match, spoke about the chants: “Both chants are wrong. Greenwood is a great player and will surely come in handy for Getafe.”
Getafe took on Osasuna in what was a really important mid-table clаsh, with Greenwood’s side sitting in 10th and their opponents in 11th.
The game finished 3-2 to Osasuna, but very nearly had a remarkable comeback from Getafe. Greenwood started from the off.
Osasuna took the lead in the 9th minute thanks to Raul Garcia, with their lead doubled 22 minutes later through Iker Munoz.
José Bordalás must have rallied his troops at half-time, with Getafe producing a remarkable four-minute figҺt back. Goals in the 64th minute from Borja Mayoral and Nemanja Maksimovic in the 68th drew them level.
However, it wasn’t meant to be for Greenwood or the away side, with Osasuna regaining the lead in the 80th minute through Jesus Areso in what was ultimately the winner.
