Although lifelong Kansas City resident Gloria White may have been thinking about the NFL Playoffs this weekend, Travis Kelce is still finding time to give back to the city and its people through his 87 & Running charity.
The 34-year-old tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs recently assisted in renovating the longtime residence of Gloria White, an older former athlete, when it became dilapidated.
According to KSHB 41, a local channel, Kelce’s foundation, 87 & Running, gave the Rebuilding Together Kansas City organization enough money to cover the necessary renovations to White’s home in eastern Kansas City.
Executive director of Rebuilding Together Kansas City Scott Hickox told the outlet, “When we looked at her home, we realized there were lots of other things she needed — a new roof, she needed gutters, she needed safety latches on the doors, she needed work in the bathroom and kitchen.”
Hickox stated that after Kelce and his foundation learned of the situation, the NFL player gave the group enough cash to pay for the necessary repairs.
According to Hickox, “Travis could partner with us because his foundation and he both cared enough about his community and what was going on in Kansas City.”
According to KSHB, Kelce, whose romance with Taylor Swift has been the buzz of the NFL season, learned about White and her home from Otis Taylor, a former Chiefs player who is married to a White relative.
According to the publication, White is a devoted Chiefs fan, and her home is stocked with souvenirs from her own athletic career in addition to items honoring her hometown NFL team.
In her early years, White broke down barriers as an athlete, becoming the first Black cheerleader at her middle school in Topeka, Kansas. White later participated in the Abilene, Texas, Olympic Trials.
But according to KSHB, White’s house was collapsing, so she sent a help request to Rebuilding Together Kansas City. According to the organization’s assessment, White’s home required a variety of renovations, including work on the sewer system, new doors, basement steps, hot water heater, kitchen sink, bathroom safety bars, and fire safety devices.
White called the group after discovering raw sewage seeping through the basement, which necessitated cleaning of the entire property.

White was adamant about staying in her house rather than moving out, according to Hickox.
“She wants to stay in this neighborhood, and her presence has made the neighborhood better,” stated the executive director of Rebuilding Together Kansas City.
“I’ve spent 56 years here,” White said to KSHB. “Miss Gloria is known to them. My focus is on people.
