Mo Salah broke Mozambique’s heart with a late goal that saved Egypt’s AFCON draw

The manager of Liverpool has spoken openly his desire to see Egypt eliminated early.

JURGEN KLOPP is sure to be a happy man after watching Mo Salah’s Egypt scrape a draw against lowly Mozambique.

The Liverpool star needed to score a 97th minute penalty to draw 2-2 against a side ranked 111th in the world.

In the opening group B match of the African Cup of Nations on Sunday, Egypt was predicted to easily defeat their opponents.

After barely two minutes, Mostafa Mohamed gave them the lead with a well-executed finish; Salah provided the assist.

However, Egypt was unable to consolidate its power.

And in the 55th minute, Witi scored an equalizer to put Mozambique in a dream come true.

Clesio Bauqe’s goal moments later made it even better for his nation, 2-1.

And with Mozambique having never won an Afcon game, Egypt was headed for an unexpected loss.

However, Salah was able to save some face for Egypt by winning a penalty kick in the final seconds of injury time.

Liverpool will be relieved by the outcome because they still have to play Ghana, one of the pre-tournament favorites, on Thursday.

Still, Klopp, the manager of the Reds, is probably happy with the result.

Salah’s return to Anfield is much-needed as Liverpool attempts an unexpected title challenge.

Salah would also return for crucial matches against Chelsea and Arsenal should Egypt advance early in the group round, which concludes against Cape Verde on Monday.

Before his star player left the Afcon, Klopp cheerfully acknowledged that he wanted to see Egypt lose as soon as possible.

“I said (to Salah) if I wish you good luck it would be a lie,” stated Klopp.

Personally, I would be content if they were eliminated in the group stage.

However, it’s probably not feasible. They can continue and prevail.

‘Good luck and come back healthy’ was the message, then. We will deal with it; we have to deal with it.

“I’m sure we can work things out.”
