Jurgen Klopp Implements Ban on 6 Liverpool Stars from Touching the ‘This Is Anfield’ Sign Before Matches

Before games, six Liverpool players are not allowed to touch the recognizable “This Is Anfield” sign, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Since Bill Shankly initially put up the “This Is Anfield” sign nearly 50 years ago, it has become a recognized icon of European football.

One of Shankly’s most well-known quotes served as the foundation for the statement: “It’s there to remind our lads who they’re playing for and to remind the opposition who they’re playing against!”

Up till now, the sign has retained its historic significance despite being replaced three times.

In only the last 10 years, Liverpool has won 19 league crowns, the sixth European Cup, the ninth League Cup, the eighth FA Cup, the fourth Super Cup, and the inaugural Club World Cup.

The players of today touch the sign ceremoniously as they step onto the field.

However, as things stand, six players have not yet won the right to do so.

“I’ve advised my players not to touch the ‘This Is Anfield’ sign until they win something!” said Klopp upon taking over at Liverpool in 2016.

It’s a deserving gesture. I attempted that when I managed Borussia Dortmund, but we lost 4-0.

Enrollments for the summer Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister are all prohibited from touching the sign in the event that the restriction is still in effect.

Young Stefan Bajcetic and January addition Cody Gakpo are also prohibited from touching the tunnel sign because the Reds did not win any championships the previous season.
