Thursday brought together the richest people from Manchester and Chanel’s other foreign clients, causing a clash of civilizations.
The event started on Wednesday with guests getting a quick look at Manchester’s history and culture. It ended on Thursday night with the Chanel Métiers d’Art fashion show.
There is a chance that everyone will feel a mix of humor, wonder, and surprise. Rich people who like Chanel are used to taking private jets to parties in Miami, St. Tropez, or Dubai. Being in the “First” Class Lounge at Euston Station while waiting for a crowded and late train to Manchester Piccadilly was a very new and strange feeling.
Most of the time, people who wear Chanel and have a lot of money do not understand what “low-key” means. As people walked past the coffee-stained counters, they swished past these strange machines called ticket gates, carrying big quilted bags with the famous CCs and shaggy Chanel moon boots.
Even though Manchester United’s football teams are very wealthy, some memes have made fun of the rough side of the city. For example, “Will Chanel wine and dine the billionaires at Greggs?” also asked, “Is Kim Kardashian singing at The Millstone?” In the northern part of Manchester, the Millstone is a stylish bar. I asked, “How can we make the show worse?”
This is what the answer is: Kim Kardashian is not a Chanel spokesperson right now. There are no plans to open a Greggs, even though some American reporters were dying to see Manchester’s world-famous flagship shop. The game between Manchester United and Chelsea on Wednesday at Old Trafford was also very exciting.
BRITISH FASHION CHANEL
People staying at hotels were given free boxes of PG Tips and Man U strips with the number 5 (after a perfume) on the back. This is a normal perk that Chanel gives.
If you wanted to see the catwalk from above, you could have stayed in an apartment above the shops and bars on Thomas Street. Chanel took over the whole block by putting up a glass awning over the street and sending its own chefs to a few food shops.
Hugh Grant had drinks with Jobe Ferguson, Sofia Coppola, Alexa Chung, and Kristen Stewart at the fancy Bay Horse Tavern, which Ferguson helped to open, before the event. The man says, “Working on this with Chanel has been amazing.” Ferguson said with a frown, “This is something you will never forget.”

Black limos full of tourists from the United States and Southeast Asia have taken over Manchester. They take them from one restored Victorian warehouse to another while local tour guides give them Vimto and tell them stories about Cottonopolis, the city’s name when it was a textile hub. There are not enough umbrellas in the city because of the beautiful rain.

Businesses that take their events to other countries now have a responsibility to make the local economy and society better. Chanel helped pay for the free show Manchester Modern: Past, Future, and Present. There were no more spots available.
A graphic artist and co-founder of Factory Records in Manchester, Peter Saville made many of the record covers. The takeover by Manchester and Chanel took eight months to plan, and famous people from Manchester, like poet John Cooper Clarke and singer Jeanette Winterson, took part.
