CAN’T FATHOM: Legends Alan Shearer and Ian Wright Slam Diogo Jota for ‘Embarrassing’ Dive Leading to a Penalty against Newcastle

Diogo Jota has drawn criticism for the incident after winning a contentious late penalty to help Liverpool defeat Newcastle and increase their advantage at the top of the Premier League.

Diogo Jota, the Portugal international who won a late penalty for Liverpool against Newcastle, was called “embarrassing” by Alan Shearer.

With just seven minutes remaining in the Premier League match, the Reds forward outran the Magpies’ defense with a pass that split them wide open and went around keeper Martin Dubravka. Jota, however, stumbled as he went past the Newcastle keeper and claimed that Dubravka’s hands had tripped him.

The Newcastle player was immediately booked by referee Anthony Taylor, who pointed to the penalty spot. The hosts won 4-2 and moved three points clear of the leaders in the standings as Mohamed Salah stepped up to bury his penalty into the goal.

Liverpool's Diogo Jota caused fury when he won a penalty against Newcastle

Shearer, a legendary player for the Magpies, was incensed by the ruling and insisted that Jota had tricked the referee. He tweeted the phrase “What a great dive that is” along with two emojis of laughing faces.

The legendary Arsenal player Ian Wright expressed his perplexity with Jota’s decision to go down searching for a penalty when there was an open goal glaring at him. Wright tweeted: “I’d sooner give up a goal than shoot into an empty net! Observed everything!”

Shearer then unleashed a vicious attack on Jota, tweeting the word “embarrassing” in response to Wright’s remark. Salah’s subsequent penalty kick completed an exciting victory for the league leaders, but Newcastle manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports that it wasn’t fair. It’s not a penalty in my opinion.

.Four minutes after the break, the Egyptian, who had missed a penalty in the first half, scored the game’s opening goal. Darwin Nunez squared the ball for his teammate to score the first goal with incredible poise. However, their lead was short-lived as Alexander Isak dashed through to give the visitors an equalizer by putting the ball past Alisson.

The game suddenly picked up steam with fifteen minutes remaining when Curtis Jones scored after Jota flicked a pass across the goal’s face to the midfield player.Afterwards, Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool a two-goal lead when he headed in Salah’s cross. Sven Botman had one more chance to tie the score, but Salah’s contentious penalty kick with four minutes remaining sealed the victory.
“I believe that was a fine. Luis Diaz, who appears back to his best, has put up what I believe to be his best performance in a Liverpool shirt in a long time. If any man was going to win it, it was going to be Diaz. He definitely goes down late. “I believe he is correct when he decides to go down,” he said to Sky Sports.”
The referee will declare that you stayed up if you attempt to stay upright there and are unable to complete the shot. I believe he made the correct decision, and if you were a Newcastle fan, you would want your own player to make same decision. Both the collision and the penalty were unambiguous.

“Another contentious penalty for Liverpool came after a tackle by Botman that brought Luis Diaz down. Reds great Jamie Carragher insisted there was a foul, despite some believing Taylor shouldn’t have pointed to the spot.
