Former Liverpool greats Roberto Firmino and Fabinho were both present at Monday night’s game at Anfield, marking their return to the stadium after a summer transfer to Saudi Arabia.
While Firmino’s departure was deliberate (as detailed in his autobiography Si Senor), Liverpool’s midfield is also missing Fabinho, who left without warning, leaving Wataru Endo, who is shortly to leave for the Asian Cup, as their lone No. 6.
Fabinho, a holding midfielder, would still see playing time for this team despite his disappointing season.
Darwin Nunez had three excellent opportunities in the first half, but he missed Firmino’s composed play in front of goal. However, the Uruguayan made up for it with a composed assist in the second half.
