After going two months without a victory in all competitions, Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq team is currently just eight points above the Saudi league’s relegation zone.

The former Liverpool duo’s Al-Ettifaq squad hasn’t won a game in the past two months, so Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard’s difficult journey in Saudi Arabia continues.

They have only won once in their last 13 games across all competitions, dating back to October 28. As a result, they are only eight points above the relegation zone.

Gerrard believed that this week’s matchup with the league’s worst team, Al Hazem, would eventually result in three points. Nevertheless, a last-minute equaliser negated Demarai Gray’s goal, ending in a stalemate.

The Liverpool icon is currently under criticism as a result of his subpar on-field performances. To help turn things around, he is urging fresh hires to be made during the January transfer window.

“After Al-Ettifaq’s 1-1 draw this week, I am the first to hold responsibility and I will not blame anyone,” Gerrard declared.

“Al Kuwaykibi deserved to start because he did a good job when he came on as a replacement against Al-Nassr.

“I am well aware of our financial capabilities, and we have the chance to add players who will strengthen the squad. There are players with 13 goals at different teams. Gini Wijnaldum scored six goals, Moussa (Dembélé) scored eight, while the remaining players scored one or two goals each.

Teams in the Saudi Pro League are not expected to play again until mid-February as they are currently on a lengthy break. This gives Gerrard the time he needs to think things through and determine where his team, Al-Ettifaq, may need to grow. Their leading scorer, Moussa Dembélé, could want to raise his game with just seven goals.

The Daily Mirror claims that Gerrard may attempt to add Roberto Firmino to his squad. Firmino isn’t playing much for his current team, Al-Ahli, despite having played with Jordan Henderson and Wijnaldum at Liverpool in the past.

Since he currently plays for Al-Ahli, I find it extremely difficult to offer commentary on that matter. However, I’ve been a tremendous fan of Bobby Firmino since the day I first saw him.
