Union SG 2-1 Liverpool:The Red Devils failed, ‘Golden Boy’ Jarell Quansal scored an impressive goal in the 40th minute, but Klopp still won the top spot in the Europa group

The youngest European club in Liverpool’s history lost 2-1 to Union Saint-Gilloise in their last Europa League group game.

A 20-year-old center back named Jarell Quansah scored their 14th goal of the season. It was his first goal as a senior on a tough night for Jurgen Klopp’s young team.

With his goal in the 40th minute, Quansah tied the club record for most games with a goal in a row, 34. As of Sunday, Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, and Alisson Becker will all be back for Manchester United after being left out. They will be in the way of a new record.

Even though they lost a second time, Liverpool already had the top spot. However, Union’s win sent them to the Europa Conference League play-offs.

The youngest player on the team was Wataru Endo, who was 30 years old. The oldest player on the team was the next oldest, who was 22 years old, and the youngest players were Ibrahima Konate and Cody Gakpo.

Not surprisingly, the home team was a threat right away. They have only lost one game at home this season, and that was because Noah Sidiki and Koki Machida missed a shot.

Gakpo lost his balance when he tried to receive a crossfield pass from Conor Bradley inside the box during a rare attack. However, Liverpool had six players under 20 years old, so they naturally had trouble with flow and control.

Mohammed Amoura and Gustaf Nilsson beat Quansah to a pass played into the right channel. That is where the first goal came from, but Caoimhin Kelleher made some great saves.

Curtis Jones and Endo looked like they had been fouled before Amoura broke away to score after Kelleher saved half of his first shot. What VAR found, though, was that there was not enough in those charges or an offside.

Quansah scored a great goal. The defender turned in Jones’ corner kick to score and make up for the last-minute draw that VAR had taken away from him when Toulouse lost 4-3 to him last month.

Union took the lead again just before halftime, and Cameron Puertas beat Kelleher too easily at his right-hand post, which made people question where he was placed.

Instead of Konate, Joe Gomez played center back. Both will likely play against Manchester United on Sunday, but Quansah was the best. Ryan Gravenberch took Endo’s place to drop the average age even more, but it did not change how the game went.

Before VAR threw out the goal because Lazare Amani touched the ball with his hand, Klopp had already replaced Darwin Nunez with an 18-year-old left defense and Puertas with Darwin Nunez. Then Puertas beat Kelleher softly again, this time to his left.

Liverpool’s second shot of the game was blocked by Anthony Moris, first from Gravenberch and then from Harvey Elliott in the 78th minute. This showed how little of an effect the visitors had, even though Nilsson’s header went wide and Puertas had to make another save.
