Arsenal ace Kai Havertz has been praised by PSV Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz having previously worked together with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

In the Champions League, Arsenal traveled to the Netherlands for their last group-stage matchup against PSV this evening.

There wasn’t much at stake in this match because PSV and Arsenal had already advanced to the competition’s knockout stages.

Unsurprisingly, Mikel Arteta changed his lineup, and Arsenal took the lead thanks to a quick goal from Eddie Nketiah.

PSV found a leveller through Yorbe Vertessen and neither side could then find the winner, meaning they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Arteta left out most of his star names from the 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa over the weekend.

One man who did keep his place was Kai Havertz, who had a late goal controversially ruled out in that defeat.

The German didn’t exactly have his best night, managing just one shot and 41 touches before being substituted in the 88th minute.

Havertz didn’t manage a key pass or a shot on target, with the 24-year-old unable to make a huge impact in the final third.

There are still some questions over Havertz despite his recent strong run of form and PSV boss Peter Bosz has moved to praise him.

Bosz coached Havertz at Bayer Leverkusen and still has a huge amount of respect for the former Chelsea man.

As quoted by The Telegraph’s Sam Dean, Bosz hailed Havertz following the final whistle in Eindhoven tonight.

Bosz suggested that Havertz is a ‘big, big talent’ and an ‘outstanding player’, claiming you don’t need to be some sort of football expert to see that.

“You don’t need to be a scientist in football to see this was a big, big talent. Absolutely. He is really a modest guy… An outstanding, outstanding player,” said Bosz.

“Many questions arose at that time, could he succeed in a country other than Germany with another top club? He did it. He scored the only goal to help Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League, now he continues to play at Arsenal. To me, he is especially excellent.

“When I arrived at Leverkusen, Havertz played on the right wing but I realized his potential to play as an attacking midfielder. So I put him in a system with one holding midfielder and the other is Julian Brandt. He played extremely well.

“I also tried to play him as a number 9 but Rudi Voller [Leverkusen’s former sporting director] did not agree. I believe he can play number 9, what he did at Chelsea proves that.

“Currently under Mikel Arteta, Havertz has returned to playing as an attacking midfielder. He can play such positions, even on the wing. After all, it proves how smart Havertz is. Technically, he is almost perfect in every way for a tall player. He can score goals, not just in one position.

“Personally, I believe that at Arsenal, Havertz is playing in the best position.”

Havertz clearly has talent but his time in English football has been a little up and down.

German football is very different to the Premier League and the prominence of ‘raumdeuters’ – ‘space invaders’ – isn’t really matched in the Premier League.

Managers seem to be trying Havertz in a variety of roles to see what he can do, as he has been switched from striker to number 10 to midfield and back again.

With Bosz’s high praise echoing in Arteta’s ears, the player has been performing admirably lately, and Havertz will be hoping to continue in the upcoming days, weeks, and months.
