On a dismal afternoon at Old Trafford, Man United lost to Bournemouth 3-0 in an ugly fashion.
Following Manchester United’s miserable 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, Bruno Fernandes criticised the team’s inconsistent play.
United, who have had difficulty staying consistent this season, suffered yet another significant loss at the hands of Bournemouth, who took the lead in just the fifth minute thanks to a brilliant strike from Dominic Solanke.
After taking the lead, Bournemouth was content to defend, but United was unable to generate any significant opportunities, and shortly after the break, Anthony Martial was substituted by Rasmus Hojlund.
Even though United quickened their pace in the second half, Bournemouth scored twice in as many minutes after the hour mark, and VAR’s intervention in injury time kept them from scoring a fourth.
As a consequence, Bournemouth secured their maiden victory at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, United has already dropped 18 games throughout all competitions in 2023—their greatest number in a calendar year since 1989.
The first United player to speak to the media following the match was Fernandes, who was obviously dissatisfied. “We lacked many things and that’s why we don’t get the result today,” he remarked.
“Everything was at a lower level than it was in the previous game, which is why you get these kinds of outcomes when you play teams like Bournemouth, who are really aggressive and forward-thinking; they push you and you think it’s going to be easy.
“Everything was performing poorly. Movement, inventiveness, and stepping into the box with bodies. We usually had one or two players when we arrived, but in the most recent game, we had more guys enter the box to score a goal.
“It was, as I mentioned, underperforming today. We simply aren’t consistent, and in football, it counts for a lot. Being consistent throughout every game is crucial, and we’re not doing that.”
