The former Arsenal striker then pulled up an article he had been reading on how Maddison had described Rice as a “top player” and “hated” him moving to Arsenal this summer.

He then broke out into a chant of: “Arsenal! Arsenal!”

The Gunners lead the table by five points after Rice’s last-minute goal.

If Liverpool triumphs over struggling Sheffield United tonight, they can reduce the deficit to two.

In the meantime, if they win today, leaders Manchester City might cut their lead over Arsenal to three points. but will have a challenging journey to Aston Villa.

Since the start of the previous season, Villa has won 13 straight Premier League games, giving them the best home record in the league.
