PLAYER RATINGS: Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jeremy Doku impress but Alisson struggles

Erling Halaand’s first goal was cancelled out by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s well-taken goal, and Liverpool won a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium. Gary Neville named Liverpool’s right-back the game’s MVP, although Alisson Becker had a difficult time stopping the shot.

Alisson – 5

In the build-up to Haaland’s first-half goal, there were a few tense moments early on when he had the ball at his feet before his sliced clearance gave City possession again. He might also think that after receiving a touch, he ought to have done a better job of stopping the striker’s shot. Thank goodness for VAR, as we managed to deny City a second goal halfway through the second half. Not too expensive, but ultimately an afternoon to forget.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8

The all-action hero for Liverpool and man of the match for Gary Neville. The defensively challenged England international had a challenging afternoon against Doku’s quickness and cunning, but he performed admirably. He posed a threat as always, heading in the opposite direction. He played a crucial role in Liverpool’s offensive development, posing a constant threat with his passing and delivery, and he finished the afternoon with a beautiful low strike into the bottom corner to earn a point.

Joel Matip – 7

made several vital early clearances within his own penalty area during the match, and in the first half, he set up Nunez’s opportunity with a driving run into the City half. Alongside Van Dijk, he was a rock at the center of Liverpool’s defense, and his day was capped off by an incredible last-second block that kept Bernardo Silva out.

Virgil van Dijk – 6

Could he have seen Haaland’s run for City’s goal and moved in to try to stop the striker? Perhaps, but the defender is regaining his composure and remained composed in the face of Haaland’s challenge. Liverpool appears to be in the right place at the right moment, as they grind out what could turn out to be a crucial point.

Kostas Tsimikas – 7

In place of Andy Robertson, Tsimikas played a strong defensive game against the cunning Foden. played the entire 90 minutes, and even though he may not have contributed as much offensively as he would have liked, Klopp is starting to rely on him.

Alexis Mac Allister – 7

Described by Jamie Carragher of Sky Sports as his “acid test” as a holding midfielder, the Argentina international met the challenge admirably. He was accurate with his passing and maintained his position well in front of Liverpool’s back four. was once taken aback by Doku’s speed during the second half, but I won’t be the only player to experience this. then replaced with Endo

Curtis Jones – 5

Jurgen Klopp gave the midfield player a great chance to shine in a pivotal game, but he chose not to take it. His careless ball back to Alisson nearly caused a catastrophe, so things did not go well to begin with. Neither did it get much better. Despite playing 55 minutes, the 22-year-old did not have the impact he would have hoped to, as evidenced by his meager four forward passes. Early in the second half, Gravenberch took his place.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6

Not the visually striking display that fans of the Hungarian international have grown accustomed to. He was orderly in the middle of the park, and in the first half, a deft pass nearly led to Nunez’s freedom. But he didn’t have the penetration in his game that Liverpool needed to help them break down City. Gakpo took over in the 73rd minute.

Diogo Jota – 5

struggled to make an impact on Liverpool’s front three’s game on the left. He only had one touch in the Manchester City box, one take-on attempt, and one chance created. Eventually gave up after 55 minutes, capping a dull afternoon.

Mohamed Salah – 6

lacked the goal threat that both Liverpool and he would have liked as he searches for the two goals that will put him in the 200 club at Liverpool. He was mostly silent for the entire ninety minutes thanks to Man City’s defense.

Darwin Nunez – 5

Nunez experienced his moments. How often does that seem to be said? Ederson made a great save on his early header, but he was let down moments later by a bad first touch when a good one would have sent him through one goal. Again, there is no doubting his hard ethic, but he was unable to regain his shooting form as only one of his four attempts on goal found the net. Elliott took his place late in the game, and following the match, he got into a fight with City manager Guardiola.
