Following Uruguay’s 3-0 qualifying victory over Bolivia on Tuesday, Luis Suarez compared Darwin Nunez to two other great strikers and praised Nunez as one of the world’s finest.

After beating Brazil in October and Argentina earlier in the November international break, Marcelo Bielsa’s team recorded their third consecutive qualifying victory thanks to the two goals scored by the Liverpool striker.

Suarez, who has scored 68 goals for La Celeste, is currently playing a supporting role in Uruguay’s setup, with Nunez taking over as the team’s primary attacker.

As a substitute in Uruguay’s match against Bolivia, Suarez made his return to the national team since the 2022 World Cup and promised to do all in his power to back up the team’s new star striker.

“I am facing one of the world’s top No. 9s, Darwin Nunez,” he declared. We need to make the most of it and savor it.

He inherited possessions from all of us, including Edi Cavani, Erling Haaland, and me. That which is valued is a complex mixture of objectives, dedication, and personal sacrifice on the part of the team.

“Today I am in another role and I am happy to be here helping the group, what I have to do is contribute.”

“Celebrating with Luis is something very nice and special,” Nunez said recently, continuing a pattern of public displays of his love for Suarez. He made history and is considered the nine of Uruguay. It is my constant goal to emulate him.

As a member of our team, Luis is crucial. His extensive background playing for his country gives him a wealth of knowledge on the field. We appreciate his presence, his guidance to the younger generation, and the lessons he imparts to us.
