Following the international break, Liverpool will play Manchester City in a crucial Premier League match.
The free-scoring Reds, who have performed admirably thus far this season, will now face the most difficult challenge to their resurrected reputation as title contenders.
Now that Liverpool has one or two players on the verge of returning from injury, things could become even better. But there’s still a long way to go before other major players start playing again, and there’s still some uncertainty around a couple more.
Here are the most recent Liverpool injury updates along with possible return dates.
Joe Gomez
Similar to Konate, Gomez was an unanticipated absence from the matchday roster for the Brentford game, and as of right now, we don’t know much about the nature or extent of his problem.
After that match against the Bees, Klopp had only one thing to say about Konate and Gomez: “Yeah, both for injury reasons as well.”
“We’ll assess the severity, but they weren’t accessible today.”
It is quite hard to estimate when versatile defender Gomez might make a comeback until we hear more from the Liverpool manager.
Potential return date: Unknown
Andy Robertson
The Scotland international Robertson, a mainstay at left back, sustained a shoulder injury last month while playing for his country and will likely need surgery that will keep him out until the new year.
Before the exciting Sunday night draw between the Tartan Army, who are off to Euro 2024, and Norway, he provided an update to Viaplay Sports, saying, “I’m getting there, slowly and surely.” The most important thing was that the surgery went well and there were no aftereffects.
“It’s going great so far; it’s been three weeks since my surgery, so things are moving along nicely. I just need to take things little by little, week by week. So far, everything has gone smoothly, and perhaps this will continue. Hopefully, I’ll be back on the grass in no time.
When asked when he would return, Robertson said, “I haven’t looked that far ahead yet.” Just trying to go week by week is all I’m doing. Since I’m not the best injured, I’m attempting to accept little victories each and every week in order to avoid being upset.
“I don’t want to plan a game in my head only to abandon it or return before then. I’m just going to take things carefully at first, but eventually I’ll have to start pushing, and when that moment comes, I’ll do all in my power to get onto the field as soon as possible.
Potential return date: January 2024
Curtis Jones
Jones has been out since the beginning of November due to a hamstring injury, having last participated in the Carabao Cup victory at Bournemouth.
But earlier this month, Klopp stated that he anticipated the 22-year-old returning to action after the international break.
Possible return date: November 25 on Saturday against Manchester City
Thiago Alcantara
The incapacity of Liverpool to keep key midfield player Thiago healthy and productive for any extended amount of time is one of their biggest grievances.
Due to multiple setbacks, the injury-plagued Spaniard has not played a single game since April. It seems unlikely that he will return from his chronic hip trouble until the New Year at the latest.
“Thiago is a continuous issue. We can’t exert additional strain on Thiago,” Klopp stated earlier this month.
“However, we anticipate his return, most likely at the beginning of the New Year.
“November has already arrived. That would entail an additional four weeks, but I think that would be a reasonable attempt. I am really happy to see him again. The player is simply outstanding.
“I know why you’re asking, but at this point, not much will change, so we can’t give a week-by-week update.”
Potential return date: January 2024
Ryan Gravenberch
The Dutch midfielder has been a huge hit since swapping Bayern Munich for Merseyside over the summer, but missed out against both Toulouse and Brentford with what Klopp described as a minor knee issue.
Provided there have been no setbacks since then, it seems likely that Gravenberch will be in contention to face City on Saturday.
Potential return date: Saturday, November 25 vs Manchester City
Ibrahima Konate
A surprise absentee from the squad to face Brentford was Konate, who also withdrew from France duty with the apparent recurrence of a hamstring injury.
Klopp did not give too much detail on the issue, though Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps said last week: “He felt something in his hamstring. He had tests, but it’s not serious.
“He needs a bit of time to not take any risks. It’s an area where he already has an injury.
“It wasn’t in his interest or mine [to call him up]. In the best of cases, he could have been training only Friday or Saturday.”
We wait to see if Konate may be in contention for a swift return at City.
Potential return date: Saturday, November 25 vs Manchester City
Stefan Bajcetic
Academy graduate midfielder Bajcetic enjoyed a breakout 2022/23 season that was sadly curtailed by an adductor injury early in March.
The Spaniard has featured just twice since then after setbacks and Klopp is unsure when he will be able to call upon him again.
