This week, Luis Diaz was instrumental in Colombia’s victory over Brazil.

After Liverpool forward Luis Diaz scored a game-winning goal in Colombia’s comeback victory over Brazil, his partner sent a touching message.

The 26-year-old made his first trip back to his home country since his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, was detained and then freed 12 days later. As a result of the horrific incident, Diaz missed two games for Liverpool before scoring in his comeback match against Luton Town.

The hooded guys who kidnapped Mane Diaz were finally freed at the start of November. The Reds forward spent some time with his family before the start of the international break. A few days later, he scored twice, the second of which was past clubmate Alisson Becker, to give Colombia a historic victory over their South American opponents.

Diaz turned the match on its head with a late header in a four-minute burst. Those close to the family were visibly moved by the footage of his father’s wild celebration as he watched on.

Gera Ponce and the Liverpool forward’s daughter were among the Diaz family in Barranquilla. The girl went on to appear with her father in his post-match interview.
