While his father, Luiz Manuel Diaz, was taken captive for twelve days, the Liverpool forward scored twice in the span of four minutes towards the end of the second half.

While celebrating with his wife Cilenis Marulanda, Diaz Snr., who was wearing a Colombia jersey and a necklace, was overcome with emotion and collapsed in the stands of the Metropolitano Stadium. The fans surrounding him had to prop him up.
