In dramatic fashion, Messi led Argentina to their first World Cup victory since 1986 last year.

After a 3-3 tie in regulation time at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, Argentina prevailed 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Ronaldo, Ronaldo’s longtime adversary, was also in the Middle East for the competition, but he was knocked out by Morocco in the quarterfinals.

The Portugal national team player cried as he walked down the tunnel, realizing this was his last chance to win the World Cup.

Ronaldo acknowledged that his legacy would not be defined by World Cup success, despite the significance of such success for other, more established stars.

Even if I win the World Cup, that will remain,” Ronaldo remarked. There are those who like me better than others. Some people are naturally drawn to blondes, while others are drawn to brunettes.

Year after year, I have had to prove my worth. A tournament victory would be fantastic for me.

I have high aspirations, but even if you tell me I will never win another tournament, I will be satisfied. All additional records will be available in the history books. Of course, storing a World Cup away is a good idea. What a fantastic fantasy!

On what would have been Diego Maradona’s 63rd birthday, the 36-year-old paid respect to the late great. Messi grew up looking up to Maradona and has claimed that his success represents Argentina as a whole.

There is no better spot to congratulate him than here, he remarked, because the field is crowded with players and there’s a ball nearby. You and everyone of Argentina can claim this year’s Ballon d’Or.

All the honors I’ve received have been wonderful, but I never forget to highlight the value of my team. This is a side issue. I’ve had a lot of good fortune; I got to play on the greatest team ever, the finest squad in history, and it helped me earn a lot of individual honors. I am most proud of the fact that despite the many difficulties I encountered while playing for Argentina, I never gave up hope of bringing home the Copa America and the World Cup.
