Oleksandr Zinchenko was one of the best performers for Arsenal during the 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The 26-year-old was a second-half substitute in the last two games, but he was reinstated into the starting line-up against the Clarets.
With Ben White picking up a knock in training, Takehiro Tomiyasu switched to right-back which allowed Zinchenko to reclaim his left-back role.
The Ukrɑinian made the most of the opportunity with a lively performance. He capped the display with a stunning ‘karate kick’ goal from the edge of the box.
Aside from his stellar strike, the left-back had 116 touches with 82 accurate passes. He won an impressive 14 duels alongside five successful tackles.
Zinchenko also completed 100 per cent of his long balls (7/7). It was an outstanding response from him on the back of being dropped from the XI.
Kaya Kaynak, reporter for football.london, praised Zinchenko: “A technical handle to free up space for Bukayo Saka in the first half. Showed equally great technique to score Arsenal’s third goal.”
The former Manchester City man was hugely consistent with his showing in his debut season, but he has yet to replicate the same level of displays.
Hence, the decision to drop him to the bench was justifiable. The injury to White opened the door for him and he grabbed the chance with both hands.
Following the international break, Brentford will travel to Arsenal. Zinchenko is a strong candidate to hold onto his position after dominating the Clarets.
The Gunners are now level on points with leaders Manchester City, who play Chelsea on the road this coming weekend. They are presently ranked second in the standings.
