Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo top the internet’s most popular list of the best athletes of all time.
Messi and Ronaldo have shared the stage for almost 15 years, with Luka Modric the only player to disrupt their 10-year Ballon d’Or reign in 2018.
Earlier this month, Messi won the trophy for the seventh time, solidifying his status as perhaps the greatest football player of all time.
Having led Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar as captain, the Argentine has gotten off to a flying start with Inter Miami, scoring 10 goals in seven Leagues Cup games.
While his adversary has been having success, Ronaldo has continued to produce, scoring 15 goals in 16 games (across all competitions) and adding nine assists.
Both players have had amazing careers, and as a result, Messi topped the list of Pubity Sports’ “Top 10 greatest Athletes.”
Mohammed Ali, Michael Jordan, Virat Kohli, Usain Bolt, Mike Tyson, LeBron James, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps, and LeBron James round out the top 10.
Notable omissions include Diego Maradona and Pele.
Messi vs. Ronaldo has been a heated argument for decades, and it will likely continue long after both players have retired.
The competition between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi “is gone,” Ronaldo said recently, because the two players have already “changed the history of football.”
“I don’t see things like that, the rivalry is gone,” Ronaldo stated in September (quotes courtesy of Record). It was well received by the audience.
There is no need for fans of Cristiano Ronaldo to dislike Messi or vice versa. Thanks to our efforts, football will never be the same. The fact that we are held in high esteem internationally is crucial.
Despite the fact that I’ve played in leagues outside of Europe, I’ve taken the same approach as he has. He seems to be doing OK, and I myself am. The history will never die, but I don’t see any animosity between the two groups.
It had been 15 years since we last performed together on stage. I wouldn’t call us friends, and I certainly haven’t invited him over for dinner, but we do get along well enough as professional colleagues and respect one other.
