With the second team, Liverpool lost to Toulouse 2-3 in Group E of the Europa League, ending a seven-game winning run.
Why was Liverpool’s loss not a big surprise? Because Jurgen Klopp only used the second team, which still had important players like Allister and Luis Diaz.
Liverpool has a team with a lot of backup players.
Diogo Jota scored a goal in the 88th minute.
ESPN FC on X: “Jarell Quansah, 20, thought he scored the scoreless goal for Liverpool in the last minute of extra time.” The goal was thrown out because Alexis Mac Allister touched the ball too hard.
VAR saw that Alexis Mac Allister’s chest was hit by the ball, which then went up and hit his sleeve.
Luis Diaz can’t do anything.
For the first time in 119 games for Liverpool, defender Joe Gomez almost scored a goal. He was named captain. From a free kick on the left, striker Cody Gakpo crossed the ball to Gomez in the fourth minute. His header at the near post hit the crossbar and went in.
Besides this one chance, though, Liverpool didn’t make any other big chances in the first half. Their defense even gave up a goal when Kostas Tsimikas let Aron Donnum steal the ball and run into Toulouse’s right penalty area. The Norwegian player stole the ball and hit center back Jarell Quansah on the foot. The ball then changed direction and flew towards the near post’s high corner, where goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher couldn’t respond.
The score was 3–2 for Toulouse against Liverpool.
Joe Cole, a defender who used to play for Liverpool, said that Toulouse should have been ahead after the first half. Even worse, the home team had two scary chances to score at the start of the second half, but neither one went in.
In the beginning of the second half, Coach Klopp brought on Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Dominik Szoboszlai. But before they could make a move, they gave up another goal. Now, they made a mistake on the left wing when Diaz lost the ball because three home players were all around him.

Vincent Sierro, a midfielder, got the ball and hung it into the penalty area for Thijs Dallinga, a striker. Dallinga shot low and to the right, making goalie Kelleher stop and watch the ball go in.
Liverpool scored a goal to get back into a funny and unexpected position. Alexander-Arnold put the ball on the left side of the penalty area so Gomez could head it toward the second goal. The home goalie and defender ran forward, but Cristian Casseres Jr., the defender, caught the ball on his shoulder and put it in the net while he wasn’t looking at his teammates.
Cristian Casseres got an own goal, which was not good.
But Toulouse quickly took back the two-goal lead. This time, Gabriel Suazo, the scorer, stretched the ball to the second post, where Frank Magri was waiting unmarked and tapped it into the net. To celebrate the goal, the home team’s players and coaches jumped up and hugged each other. People in Toulouse then turned on the lights on their phones to make light effects. They might have thought that goal was enough to win, but they almost lost the point.
Though the away team tried hard, Diogo Jota dribbled the ball into the penalty area, went around two players, and then shot low with his left foot into the far corner. This gave the home team one more goal. Liverpool is only one goal away from a tie.
In the last seconds of extra time in the second half, in the seventh minute, center back Jarell Quansah kicked the ball into the penalty area from a shaky position to tie the game 3-3. Georgi Kabakov, the Bulgarian judge, first saw the goal by pointing to where the ball was delivered, but VAR Dragomir Draganov called him out to look again at the spot where midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s hand touched the ball.

It was a strange call for the referee to rule Quansah’s late equalizer out for handball, which made Klopp very angry | The Sun
The slow motion shows that the ball hit the Argentine player in the arm after he put his hand on his chest. Mr. Kabakov chose to take away Quansah’s goal, which meant that Toulouse kept the win.
Liverpool missed the chance to move on to the next round because of the close loss, but they are still in first place in Group E.
