Luis began his professional career in 2016 with his hometown club Barranquilla FC. He was born on January 13, 1997, in Barrancas, Colombia. In 2017, he was noticed and signed by Atletico Junior, a club in the Primera A. By the end of his second full season with the club, the winger had become a regular starter and had been instrumental in the team’s winning of two national titles.
His strong performances prompted to interests from various European clubs, and in the summer of 2019 FC Porto won the speedster’s signature for €7 million. The Drages won the league and cup in his first season with the club thanks in large part to the Colombian’s goals and assists. The forward’s biggest achievement came in the 2021 Copa America when he lit the stage alight finishing as the tournament’s best goalscorer. He uprooted to Liverpool that winter of 2022.
