The England striker put on another lifeless performance, and the Red Devils’ day at Old Trafford was humiliating as well.
Sunday’s derby loss to Manchester City was as humiliating as it could have been, based on United’s prior results. This was disappointing, but not nearly as disappointing as the 6-1 thumping in 2011 or the 6-3 pounding at the Etihad Stadium last season.
City overpowered United in every area, particularly attack, to which they were unable to respond. And Marcus Rashford put on another awful display, generating hardly no danger and squandering a clear chance with the goal gaping in the second half.
Although Rasmus Hojlund, his striking partner, was much more active, Erling Haaland gave City the lead from the penalty spot (following a somewhat severe VAR intervention) because of the Dane’s foul, and he was unable to take advantage of the few opportunities he had.
The Red Devils’ wretched afternoon was capped off by a tap-in for Phil Foden and a bullet header from Haaland. As a result, the distance between them and their local rivals has never been greater.
Goalkeeper & Defence
Andre Onana (8/10):
made several excellent stops against Grealish and Haaland, including one where he leaped over his line to stop the attacker. Not much he could do about the objectives.
Diogo Dalot (5/10):
Grealish showed his defensive weaknesses, and he rarely moved forward.
Harry Maguire (6/10):
Overall, a strong performance. made two significant clearances and resisted being overwhelmed.
Jonny Evans (5/10):
He was fine personally, but the fact that United selected him to handle Haaland says it all.
Victor Lindelof (5/10):
a surprising choice for left back over Reguilon that was not well-founded.
