Responding to PA, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai is happy to be compared to Steven Gerrard, but is determined to succeed at Anfield in his own way.

After just a few games since arriving at Liverpool in a £60m deal from RB Leipzig in the summer, Szoboszlai has instantly become a fan favourite.

Many characteristics of his playing style have led him to be compared to the legendary Gerrard. This player said: “I want to do it my own way but of course it would be fun if they said I’m the new Steven Gerrard. I have a tattoo about Steven Gerrard, about what he said a long time ago.” Szoboszlai admires Gerrard.

Gerrard’s quote, which Szoboszlai has tattooed in Hungarian, is “Talent is a blessing from God, but without true will and humility it is worthless”.

Szoboszlai added: ” It’s great to wear the number 8 shirt because really great players have played in that number. I just want to continue. But I want to be myself and if I can succeed If this club is like him then I will be really happy.”When asked about his ambitions this season, he said: “I want to win everything. It’s never easy but no one will ask you how it feels to come second.”
