As soon as Virgil van Dijk became captain of Liverpool, he instituted new policies

When he implemented a new rule at Anfield, the Liverpool captain disclosed that he drew inspiration from his tenure at Celtic.

Virgil van Dijk has revealed he has introduced a new rule at Liverpool

When VIRGIL VAN DIJK was named Liverpool captain, he set a new rule for the squad, according to him.

Liverpool players must now get into a huddle on the pitch before kick off

Earlier this year, when James Milner signed with Brighton and Jordan Henderson joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, the 32-year-old defender was given the armband.

“This club has had some incredible captains over the years, leaders who would bring the best out of themselves and their team time and time again,” he remarked in reference to his selection.

“It is definitely not what I would have envisioned when I first started playing to be on the list alongside people like that.

“But the most important thing for me is that I am part of a team of leaders, individually, who find their own way to take responsibility no matter who is wearing the armband.”

The Dutchman continued by saying that as soon as he was appointed captain, he instituted a new regulation.

All Liverpool players are now required to assemble on the field for a team huddle prior to every game.

According to Van Dijk, it fosters a positive environment between the team and the audience.

He said, according to The Echo: “We used to do it when I was a Celtic player.

And the reason I always enjoyed it was because I felt it created the mood for the game and let the fans know we were about to play.

“It can also help the atmosphere with it being so close to the match starting, so if our fans want to join in by building up the noise and adding to the sense of anticipation I certainly won’t complain, even if it makes it difficult for me to make myself heard.”
