Saudi Arabia will host the first ever Esports World Cup in 2024, and to celebrate, the country’s capital city of Riyadh hosted a panel featuring Cristiano Ronaldo. The celebration was also attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, who shook hands with the Al-Nassr forward.
“An honour to meet again with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman and great to be part of this panel today discussing the future of esports and the launch of the first ever #esportsworldcup that will be held in Saudi Arabia next year!” he posted to X.
The wealthy Gulf kingdom is hoping to become a prominent participant in world sports by being chosen to host the FIFA World Cup in 2030. The 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup has also been discussed as a potential event.
