The Reds got off to a good start, and when Ashley Young was sent off in the 37th minute, they suddenly had a man advantage. At halftime, the score was 0-0 as the home team was held scoreless.
In the 75th minute, Mohamed Salah scored the game-winning penalty kick. In stoppage time, the Egyptian winger capped off a brilliant breakaway counterattack to seal the victory. Jurgen Klopp’s team came out on top with a 2-0 victory in front of their home fans.

GK: Alisson Becker – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper made one routine save early in the game. However, he didn’t have to do much otherwise and kept a comfortable clean sheet today.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
He didn’t do much wrong at the back and made a couple of driving runs on the right flank.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – 7/10
The French sensation put his foot through the ball when needed and was replaced in the 66th minute.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10
Van Dijk gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch and was a good presence on the ball.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 6/10
Tsimikas failed to catch the eye and was substituted just after the hour mark.
CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 7/10
He caused a few headaches for the opposition defenders but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
CM: Alexis Mac Allister – 7/10
Mac Allister linked up play well with others around him and managed to engineer a few promising chances in the final third.
CM: Ryan Gravenberch – 7/10
He was a strong presence on the ball and showed a few glimpses of what he can do in and around the Everton penalty area.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
Salah was quiet for most of the first half. However, he scored two important goals in the second half which made the difference today.
ST: Diogo Jota – 7/10
The Portuguese forward was a constant menace in the final third and did everything but score today.
LW: Luis Diaz – 7/10
Diaz made a few dangerous runs with the ball but lacked the cutting edge in front of the opponent’s goal.

Nunez picked up an assist for setting up Salah’s second goal.

He added more energy to Klopp’s midfield.
