Liverpool defeated a tenacious Everton side 2-0 at Anfield thanks to two goals from Mohamed Salah in the second half.
After Ashley Young was sent out for a second time for a foul on Luis Diaz, the visiting team had to play with 10 men for nearly an hour.
Even though Liverpool barely threatened, they were awarded a penalty after Diaz’s cross struck Michael Keane’s outstretched arm. Sean Dyche’s side looked comfortable with Jordan Pickford in goal.
Salah scored the game-winning goal after being instructed to check the pitchside monitor and receiving a direct point from referee Craig Pawson.
As Dyche’s men pressed for an equalizer in stoppage time, the home team scored again on the counter.
Jurgen Klopp’s team were fortunate not to add to their four red cards in the first eight games of the season. Before the Reds’ goal, it would have been prudent to send out Ibrahima Konate.
