Harry Maguire may leave Manchester United in exchange for another player during the next transfer window, according to reports.
Maguire was on the verge of departing Old Trafford during the summer, but United and West Ham were unable to come to an agreement.
The England defender seemed to refute The Guardian’s suggestion that Maguire desired a payout of over £7 million during an interview while on international duty.
“The actual opportunity to go to West Ham wasn’t really agreed upon between both clubs and myself, so it wasn’t just my chance to say yes and I’m going,” he stated (quotes via Sky Sports).
“The actual opportunity wasn’t there because we didn’t get far enough down the line with it.”
As a result, Maguire stayed at United, although under Erik ten Hag, he has still had trouble getting into the lineup.
But he did start and produce a superb performance in the 2-1 victory over Brentford before the international break.
Ten Hag had to make some adjustments to Maguire’s position on the squad, though, when Lisandro Martinez was out due to a recurrence of his metatarsal ailment from the previous campaign.
Italian powerhouse AC Milan is reportedly interested in acquiring Maguire and is preparing a proposal for the England center defender in January, according to talkSPORT.
Since Milan has Fikayo Tomori, Maguire’s Three Lions teammate, on their roster, United may make a trade proposal.
Ten Hag’s team would have to sell players, though, as the asking price for Tomori would be significantly more than what United might be able to get for Maguire.
The only method to make a move would be through those player sales, as Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns remain at Old Trafford; yet, a swap deal would still be feasible for both parties.
