Brazil’s Neymar limps off the field with an injured left knee.

Neymar walked off the field in tears after Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in World Cup qualifying action on Tuesday, allegedly with a knee injury.

In the 44th minute at the Centenario Stadium, the 31-year-old attacker stumbled and fell while running, clutching his left knee. He was instantly swarmed by players from both teams.

Neymar, who was injured and had to be stretchered off the field, was replaced by teammate Richarlison.

Brazil’s medical staff did not immediately know the extent of Neymar’s injury, but Reuters reported that sources said he had suffered a serious sprain to his left knee and would undergo testing to determine whether or not there was ligament damage.

Brazil suffered a second consecutive loss after goals from Darwin Nunez of Uruguay and Nicolás de la Cruz of Marcelo Bielsa’s team.

Neymar’s fans criticized his performance in Thursday’s 1-1 draw between Venezuela and host Brazil before the World Cup qualifier, where he plays for Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

Although Neymar has been plagued by injuries for both his club and national team in recent years, he has scored 79 goals in 128 games since making his Brazil debut in 2010. Injuries to his ankle have caused him to lose significant time over the past two seasons, and he was forced to sit out the first two games of the World Cup in Qatar, when Brazil faced Serbia.
