Seven Golden Balls are already under the Argentine superstar’s belt, making him the all-time leader. He will once again be considered the finest player in the world after leading his team to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to SPORT, France Football will honor Messi with their highest individual award in a glamorous event in Paris on October 30. With that trophy, he’ll have even more separation from his long-time opponent, Portugal’s Al-Nassr and Portugal’s most famous athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi, who signed with MLS team Inter Miami during the summer, will also make history by becoming the first winner of the Ballon d’Or to be playing their club football outside of Europe, one upping Ronaldo, who now competes for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia. By setting yet another record, Messi will surpass Erling Haaland, who scored 52 goals for Manchester City last season while leading the Blues to the Premier League and English Cup double.
Another female World Cup champion is about to be honored. Following her excellent play for Spain and Barcelona in the 2023 Women’s World Cup Finals in Australia and New Zealand, Aitana Bonmati will be awarded the Ballon d’Or Feminin.
